Hi,

Does anybody know if a tutorial on EMI simulation at specctraquest exist?

Ther first question is do you want to execute an EMI simulation using AllegroSI (SPECCTRAQuest) or SigXplorer, or the EMI rules checker EMControl?

Yes I want to execute EMI simulation in SpecctraQuest and Sigxplorer. I see the option on preferences, and SI/EMI > probe > waveform.

The only tutorial I could find is on EMControl. That is the rules checker tool.
I did not find a tutorial for EM simulation in SigXp nor SQ.

In SQ you can run a single net EM simulation. The simulation preferences allow you to choose the EMI regulations you want to test against (FCC A or B, CISPAR A or B, and VCCI 1 or 2). You can set the design margin (in dB) that you want to test against. Basically the design margin is subtracted from the chosen EMI regulation and that becomes your target. You can set the distance an antenna would be placed to measure the EM emissions. The results are shown in SigWave where the EMI regulation is a line across the display. The simulation waveform results are presented as a frequency plot where the "spikes" represent the emission "spike" at a given frequency. If any one of these "spikes" exceeds the EMI regulation line you don't meet the regulation and you have a failure.

There is an advanced tab also. This tab allows you to set up an OATS (Open Area Test Site) simulation. This is a more advanced simulation giving you further options to simulate with. For instance, you set the antenna distance as well as its'polarization. You can also turn the board in various directions and control its' height above the "table".

The near field tab allows you specify the measurement plane, which is a rectangular area over which to measure near field effects (E field and H field).

SigXplorer has similar preferences and produces similar results. You cannot set up an OATS simulation in SigXp however. Stated another way SigXp does not have the advanced preferences that SQ does.
