Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

Hi Everyone, I'm glad I could join! My question: Allegro package SI documentation says it is possible to extract package models using the 3d field solver, but I heard that this option still does not work properly, is this the case? I need to get an IBIS model of a package, and I would like to know if Allegro Package SI can do this before I invest time on learning it. Thanks for your help.

Mieltawil,

A full package model can be generated either from Allegro Package SI 620, or Allegro Package Designer 620 (I assume we are referring to the 15.5.1 release). IBIS is, indeed, one of the options for that model.

This capability has been available for almost two years. Many of our customers use the 3D extraction module to extract entire package models (any other customers online?; please "chime in").

Without the specifics of "does not work properly", I can't really speak to what you have heard. If you do find some specific issues, however, please work with your local AE or our CS personnel to get them resolved.

I would encourage you to try it.

Best Regards,

Thanks BillAcito. We have Allegro Package SI 620 and Allegro Package Designer 610, I think it's just the 15.5 release, not 15.5.1. I was told (and I don't believe it, that's why I'm here) that the 3d modeler kept crashing and could not extract bondwires, but now that I have info from the source (you), I will definately spend time on learning it. Thanks again.

The only issue that I am aware of is if the bond wires were not created "correctly", meaning if they were created by say, "add connect" versus the wire bond tool set. In that case the wires would not have the correct properties applied and the extraction tool might have difficulty with the design.
