Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

hi bob, I got one question about setOptMode.

Last night, I type getOptMode command, I find the options:

-congOpt
-rebuffer
-incrTrialRoute

They are the hidden options for setOptMode, I want to know what their functions are, what command do they control, since optDesign is just a large tcl wrapper.

Thanks, Bob!

Hi eminemshow,

Options like these are typically undocumented because they're in the process of being qualified for future release. getOptMode should not be revealing their presence, so it is unintentional that the tool exposed these internals to you. I can understand why you might be curious about what they do as you of course want to use the latest and greatest capabilities in the tool to meet timing on your designs.

It sounds like you're using tool version 6.2 or earlier perhaps? In the case of congOpt, it became a documented option in the 7.1 release (it enables an attempt to relieve local congestion during optimization). In the case of rebuffer, it became the default without having an explicit switch to enable it, and the incrTrialRoute option is now obsolete- it never applied to the optDesign command itself (it applied to internal optimization commands).

Perhaps you could share what challenges you're facing with timing optimization in general and we could make a recommendation that leveraged documented options to achieve your goals?

Thanks,
Bob

Many Thanks, Bob. I thinks I should clarify my current situation further.

When I am closing the timing of my design, I found that in a timing path, there are a lot of cells titled '****_FE_RBC_****', they are buffers or inverters, after delve into this I found that these cells must be 'ReBuffer Cell'. As we know optCritPath will do this 'rebuffer' step. And I want to try if I switch this option off, what will happen to my timing.

So I want to know the detail of this parameter.
