Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

When I import design in Encounter, I get warnings as follows:

**WARN: "BF" is neither a footprint or a cell that belongs to a footprint.
Set "buf" cell/footprint to "BF".
**WARN: "IV" is neither a footprint or a cell that belongs to a footprint.
Set "inv" cell/footprint to "IV".

If I ignore the warnings and continue, then I get these errors:

**ERROR: buffer footprint is not found!
**ERROR: *** Buffer footprint is not specified.

I've tried using library cells such as CTBUFHVTX4 and CTIVHVTX4, but still get the same warnings.

Could someone help me with this problem please? Thanks in advance.

Hi Luc,
this is what i got from the log file about the version.

@(#)CDS: First Encounter v04.10-s324_1 (32bit) 02/18/2005 15:54 (Solaris 5.8)
@(#)CDS: NanoRoute nanoroute Version v04.10-s811 NR050215-1551/USR26-UB (database version 2.30, 17) {super threading v1.4} [checked out from nru_02_10_usr26 after 02/15/2005 15:51:59, compiled using tools-4.1 on 02/18/2005 13:21:35]
@(#)CDS: CeltIC BID_CELTIC_V04_40_S077_1 Oct 29 2004 04:49:29 (sun4v_forte7_ia32)

Yes, the tool could read lib and lef files without any warning.

I read a prep ( https://forums.cmc.ca/thread.jspa?messageID=1457ֱ ) that believes cell_footprint part is not given in the lef files. but I am not sure.

Thanks,
Ali

Hi Ali,

Very Old version of encounter. We are using 7.1.
Footprint are extracted from .lib files.

I am triing to remember how the footprint was running with 4.1 version, but I am not sure:

In your conf file you need lines as:

set rda_Input(ui_buf_footprint) {A+ZA}
set rda_Input(ui_delay_footprint) {A+ZA}
set rda_Input(ui_inv_footprint) {A+Z!A}

After you need to read the .lib files and lef file.

After you can try :

setupFootPrint

Try an let me know if this si correct.

I am not able to try it, because we do not have stilll installed the old versions.

Hi Luc,

In 7.1, the automatic footprint flow is the default. Take out all your footprint commands and load the design. It should show you the list of buffers, inverters, and delay cells found. You can then trim down that list if you like with set_dont_use commands.

Luc,

you're awesome, I think it worked. i am still waiting for the tool to finish the job. but it passed that critical part. i just replaced the footprints without using setupFootPrint.

I am not sure if we have access to a newer version. anyway, I am using STM CMOS90nm technology for Encounter. In this tech, the buffer cells are "BFLVTX2 BFLVTX4 BFLVTX6 BFLVTX8 BFLVTX10 BFLVTX12". however, after entering A+ZA as footprint, the tool realized 51 candidates for bufer.

I will update the post after getting the final result.

Thanks,
Ali
