Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

APD has GDS import (Stream In).... what difficulty are you having? Is it something in particular to Virtuoso-generated stream?

Hi Bill,
I have the *.gds file, when I try to do File > Import > Stream, it is looking for the
conversion file, I do not have the conversion file and when I tried to create one
from the layer mapping, I am not sure what CLASS and SUBCLASS to use for the
mapping.
thanks for responding.

Sufia,

You are half way there --- yes, you must create the conversion or mapping file. The Class and Subclass portion of the file tell the import what layer in your APD database you want to put the information on. Example: if your layer stack has a metal substrate layer called TOP_CON, you would specify CONDUCTOR, TOP_CON. Check the APD command reference in your doc set for the "load_stream" command, which has the conversion file specifics and format, and let me know how you make out.

Hi Bill,
I guess I successfully created the conversion file following the load stream docs.
Now when I run Import in APD it gives me errors like the following:

Shape boundary is illegal
Cannot create shape near < some co-ordinates)

am I doing something wrong? I might have created the incorrect mapping file
may be....

Hi Bill,
I successfully imported the *.gin file in APD. The ONLY problem is the colors set in Virtuoso are lost in APD. Do I need to do something extra to bring all the colors as they are in Virtuoso?

No. The data will inherit the single color of the APD layer you put it on.

What die information are you bringing over? Die boundary and pads? There might be better means if you described what you are trying to do.
