Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

Does anyone have and easy way (or even a not so easy way) to add your company logo to schematic sheets?

"Here is a brute force method I use.
1. Create a new component (eg mylogo)using Part Developer.
2. First, create a SYMBOL for the part by right-clicking on Symbol and selecting NEW. Do not add any pins. Do not create a package. If you know how, add the attribute ""COMMENT_BODY"" set to TRUE.
3. Save.
4. Edit sym1 by right-clicking on it to launch ConceptHDL.
5. Make your changes to the default symbol. In other words, brute force draw your company logo.
6. SAVE the editted symbol.
7. SAVE from Part Developer and QUIT.
8.Open your schematic and add component ""mylogo"" to your schematic. If you did not add it earlier, edit the attributes of the symbol and add ""COMMENT_BODY"" as TRUE.
9. SAVE.

This method lets me add my company logo without causing any obvious problems. Hope it works for you."

"The ability to attach a logo (e.g. .bmp/.jpeg files) to schematic
sheets is planned to be included in the next SPB release (SPB15.5).

Look at Cadence solution 11017334

This enhancement request has been reported in PCR 328447. Currently the Proposed Release Date
has been set to LONGTERM.

There are 3rd party programs available to read raster images (BMP, JPEG, etc) and convert to a DXF format that can be imported into Allegro with File >
Import > DXF.
Some links to these 3rd party programs are :

Thank you for the references. This solution will work nicely with Allegro PCB Editor pages, but I don't think it will work with Concept schematic pages since DXF Import is not available.

Colmac is correct. The solution posted above is for importing images into Allegro. As stated earlier in this thread, importing graphics into ConceptHDL is certainly planned for SPB15.5. For reference, this is PCR# 386606 - "Import graphics to ConceptHDL". The Proposed/Planned release for this PCR is SPB15.5. It will be nice to see this enhancement made available.

All,

Thanks for all the comments. Sorry for not replying sooner but I've had login problems with this Forum up until today.

I have to disagree with Colmac and Skyhawk. We were able to add a logo via .dxf format. The engineer who did it is no longer here and took the knowledge with him. I will try and duplicate what he did and if I have any success I will let you know. 15.5 seems to be a couple of years away so I'd like to be able to do this sooner.

Thanks again!

Wow -

Please do let us know how you imported .dxf file data into Concept. I've been working with Concept since the old GED days and I know this (importing graphics) has been requested often. Perhaps there was an intermediate conversion to EDIF (from dxf), and then EDIF to Concept. Not sure.

In any case, SPB15.5 is targeted for about one year from now.

Search the internet for a nice routine ""BMP2DXF"". This routine will convert a BMP file of exactly (!) 640x480 to a DXF-file. If a BMP of other format is available, open it in Paint, change the pixel setting to 640x480, change it to black and white and save. Then invoke BMP2DXF and execute it using the BMP as input file.

Tada!

Interesting ...

Now, how can you get that DXF file imported into ConceptHDL?

Skyhawk,

I have to blame this on my age and on low coffeine. Somehow I did not realize that I was reading the Concept forum and not Allegro....

Sorry...

Hey -

Not a problem. I thought you had a very interesting process for getting DXF into ConceptHDL. At least Cadence will have this capabilitiy built into the product soon.
