Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail

  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Hello,

just wanted to create a SKILL topic Users can use. There are many things SKILL can do and there is plenty of room to enhance the existing API. This should be the place to talk about it.

Thanks very much for setting up this thread to discuss SKILL. Would it be a good idea to set up an additional forum strictly for SKILL? Interested in comments from you and other members.

Absolutely. I think it should be either one forum for SKILL covering APD, PCB Editor, and ConceptHDL. I also could picture a main forum called Allegro Skill that contains APD-Skill, Allegro-Skill and ConceptHDL-SKILL and one general skill that could cover basics like IPC-Skill and standard programming tips that apply to all topics..........

Andy and other SKILL users,

For security reasons we are unable to accept attachments on this forum. However, in the "PCB Design" section of the content site (see the navigation to that section in the upper left hand corner of this page under "Design topics"), you will see a tab for SKILL, where I can post any contributed SKILL programs. On the content pages you will see a "contribute" email link that comes directly to me. If the program is short, certainly you can post it in the forums.

Question - do we need to add a SKILL tab in the IC Packaging content area also for APD SKILL, or is it easier to have all the SKILL in one spot?

Yes, We need an Allegro Skill forum. It should be specifically used for Skill discussions, ideas and snippets. General questions that may (or may not) involve a Skill solution should be posted to the Allegro forum. Working Skill code should be posted where all users can see it.

Note that only Moody's tecnical paper has a valid URL under the Skill Tab.

This thread is a good idea. I would like it to go even further, though. My view is that Allegro SKILL programmers are not supported very well by Cadence. I would liketo see this addressed in future conferences, masybe some classes such as the IC folks have available (above and beyond the basic class offered for Allegro folks), maybe even a debugger that works

Thanks so much for pointing out that the SKILL utility URLs were not valid. We had to zip the files since our server did not recognize .il as a valid file extension. The SKILL programs are now visible.

We have enabled the attachments feature for the forums based on your posts. We will be setting up a separate SKILL Forum this week where you can upload programming directly to the forum.
