Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

I have a recent design that exhibits very strange behavior.  I am generating artwork in RS274X format. When I view the the individual films inside Allegro, all layers look as they should. However, when I try to validate the artwork in a thrid party tool, the copper layers are empty/blank. The odb++ works just fine, all the copper is there. But in two different gerber tools, the copper layers don't show up when I try to view the gerbers. I imported a film_setup file that I just used on a production board with no issues what so ever, but the new file in question still exhibits this strange behavior. It seems it may be a seeting in the brd file database that is incorrectly set, but I cannot find anythign that looks out of place. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions that may solve this issue?

Thanks in advance,
DC

Is it just the certain copper layers or all of them?

What about the silks / soldermask are they blank also?

Hello KP,
It's only the copper layers. All the other layers, silk, paste, mask and assembly all are fine. THey are jsut as you would expect them to be.

Is they are positive planes or negative planes? If it is negative planes you will get reverse image( in gerber tool )of what actually you see in data base.Make it positive in gerber tool you will get actual image.
I hope this solves your problem.

Hello Satya,
All the planes are positive in the database, and I generate all layers as positive.

Thx,

Can you post a screenshot of a sample film record and setting along with a cross-section

Hello KP,
My last post with the screen shots did not make it to the forum, the file size was too large. So, I am re-sending as a pdf. The pdf consists of the x-section screen shot, and the film set up for layer 2, which is a plane layer.
Thanks for taking a look at these.

Is that offset (X 10,000 Y 10,000) in each of the film records?

Hello Trykon,
Yes, all of the films have the 10,000 offset. This seems to keep the layers aligned usually.
