Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

Can Allegro generate a pick-n-place file similar to OrCAD where 4 files are generated separating surface mount top, surface mount bottom, thru-hole top and thru-hole bottom components? All I can seem to fing is a generalized "report" listing all components grouped into one file. Thanks

Hi,

There won't be separate files U can find only one file.

Go to tools --> Reports and browse the properties (Ref Designator,Symbol Origin X,Symbol Origin y,Rotation, placed) and save

it and load when u r creating Pick and Place Data.

Hi
There are ways to produce files similar to what was generated from Layout. They may not be exactly the same look but they
will contain the same information. I would suggest contacting your vendor and telling them you are using Allegro. They may have an extracta routine you can run and provide the necessary information. It appears that more and more assembly shops are accepting ODB++. I would see about this possibility. Using one file for the raw card and assembly will simplify sending data for fabrication.
You can also search this forum for Gencad and Fabmaster to see about other options. There have been many posts on this subject.

There are a couple of solutions on Sourcelink that have extract routines

11058830
11162156

both show examples of getting data from the Allegro database with regards to the symbol center.

Hi, thanks for your advise, but at I cannot get that kind of information because I'm not the owner of the software nor have an userid. The customer that I'm trying to find out this information for also dosen't know nor wanting to know how to do it. Is there a step by step that I can provide to my costomer that can help him. If direct him to the site and tell him to figure it out I may loose him. Thanks, Vitaly.
