Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

Hello,

I am a new user of Cadence Allegro, though I have used other (lower-end) EDA software packages before.

I am running SPB16.01 under WinXP, and I am running into some unhelpful/annoying behavior when placing parts into my layout. Here is a quick summary of what happens:
I import a netlist from our designer (he is using Capture CIS & I use custom footprints for all parts) - this goes just fine now.
I click Place...Manually, check all components, and start placing them on the board. This is where things get annoying. Every new part that gets placed seems to be "sticking" to the most recently-placed part if there is a logical connection between the new part and any other already-placed part. What I mean by sticking is that i really have to jerk the mouse to get the new part to be in a new position in the design. If I move the mouse slowly, regardless of how far i move it, the new part will move a small bit and snap back to lying on top of the last part. If the new part has no connections yet (i.e., the other parts to which it has connections have not yet been placed), I don't see this behavior. It seems to be related to the redrawing of the rats nests, but I am not sure.

I have gone through the Setup...User Preferences menus about a dozen times and I cannot find anything that seems like it would change this behavior. If I "unrats all" after a component is placed, the components that are already placed stop "sticking", but each newly-placed component will stick. The design I am working on currently is a small project - <30 parts so I can live with this annoyance for now, but I would really prefer to be able to turn this off when I work on larger projects.

Any help on how to change this behavior would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
-philip olson

Try setting the DFA_PAUSE_LEVEL to 0 - this is found in Setup->User Preferences in the DFA_DRC category

Andrew,

Thanks! That was exactly what the problem was. After reading Cadence's little tip on that property, I can see how that would cause the behavior I was experiencing, but it made little sense to me before.

Thanks again!
