Subject: Specman 5.0.3 installation problem

Hi, all

I'm trying to install Specman 5.0.3 in my department. The problem I've got here seems to be related to the VRST_HOME environment variable.

The install guide states that we can leave the setting VRST_HOME after the installation completes if Specman is to be installed to a new directory. All we need is a fresh installation,  at first I didn't set it. But the install script refused to work.

./sn_5.0.3_install.sh: line 6751: unexpected EOF while looking for matching ``'
./sn_5.0.3_install.sh: line 6872: syntax error: unexpected end of file

I got the same error when pointing VRST_HOME to the new directory.

Hi Freddie.

My guess is that you've got a corrupted install file, or that the shell type is wrong (e.g. you're running Korn-shell when the install script expects to be run under Bash). I never set any environment variables before installing Specman.
What OS and shell are you using?

Newer versions of Specman can be installed with InstallScape, the standard Cadence installation tool, which should make life easier. I assume you're installing 5.0.3 for a specific reason, given that there are much newer and better versions available :-)

Thanks for the reply, Stephen.

We're using Fedora Core 6 in the department and the shell is Bash. It looks very likely I've got an incomplete installation media, which was passed on to us from a different department recently. There is only 1 CD containing the following files (approx 332M):

I'll happily switch to the new versions if our license permits and I can obtain one. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll try to find out later.

The problem was solved by a local guru.

It turned out the install script used an obsolete feature in Bash 2.05.
