Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

Hi everybody,

I have noticed that SPMN62 appears to do garbage collection a lot more frequently than SPMN60. I tried the following testcase to support my claim using both SPMN60 (6.0) and SPMN62 (06.20.001-p):

* Specman default limits for max memory size, garbage collection etc.
* Same VE, configuration, ecom, simulator, launch scripts etc.
* Same test consisting a single and simple (not memory intensive) transaction
* A few 'e' testbench variables traced by the ecom file

Using SPMN60, I got no garbage collections.
Using SPMN62, I got 6(!) garbage collections. Interestingly enough, when I removed the traced variables from the ecom file, I got no garbage collections using SPMN62.

Has anyone else noticed the same behavior? Any ideas on why SPMN62 does so many garbage collections?

Iraklis.

Hi Iraklis,

Thank you for sharing this info. There were some changes to the waveform integration in Specman 6.2 and Cadence R&D would like to investigate this issue.

Please would you open a support request with Cadence support (http://sourcelink.cadence.com) and share as much of the testcase as possible?

We can send an update to this forum once the issue is understood and a workaround/fix is available.

Thanks,
Dean

Hello Iraklis,

R&D have fixed the issue and have send a patch to support (which you should receive shortly).
In addition, the next hotfix (the one after the current 06.20.002-s) will include the fix, so no need
to load the patch.

Regards,
-hannes

Hi Hannes,

Thank you for the update and kudos to the R&D team for promptly producing the patch! I have just checked it against my testcase and it seems to work fine, I am no longer getting the frequent garbage collections using SPMN62. For what it's worth, the suspect behavior appeared to be triggered when waving 'e' variables of enumerated type, so if anyone is observing this behavior, be sure to use the patch.

Iraklis.
