Many of you already received communications about the move of the Cadence user community into cadence.com. And many of you have already joined, with over 4000 registrations in the first two weeks.

The new Cadence Community enhances the ability of Cadence users to connect and collaborate. In addition to moving the community into cadence.com -- enabling single sign-on for community, Sourcelink and Cadence events -- the new site is organized around nine technology segments, giving you easy access to product information, training, forums and blogs. Some of the new features include:
  • Ability to respond to posts via e-mail
  • Technology-specific blogs
  • Latest Web 2.0 social networking capabilities
  • Public profile options
  • Private messaging
  • Friends lists
Visit the new Cadence Community today at www.cadence.com/community and join the discussions!

Registration note: Due to the scope of the enhancements and the new SSO registration system, we were not able to migrate existing cdnusers.org member accounts. So new registrations are required, but this enables a broader set of functionality we think you'll enjoy.

Forum note: Under the guidance of forum moderators, we have taken the 20+ cdnusers.org forums and consolidated them into 11 forums on the new site. Posts have been brought over so you can leverage that posting history. CDNusers forums will be set to read only starting 7/30, and cdnusers.org will be redirected to the new community on 8/4.

Best regards,
Mike and Tom

Hi Folks,

here is my Academic Network/CDNlive Trip Report:

Cadence invited all universities of the Cadence Academic Network to attend the CDNlive 2008 Conference. Prior to and in some parts in parallel to the conference we had some meetings for the Cadence Academic Network.

On Monday morning we were honored to be welcomed by Mike Fister (CEO) through his opening talk. He expressed his personal interest and the great motivation within Cadence to collaborate with universities all over the world, to support their work and to exchange experiences through the Cadence Academic Network.

After a brief introduction from Patrick Haspel on the organization of the Network meetings, the Cadence Lead Universities presented their research activities and their role in the Cadence Academic Network.

All lead institutions showed impressive research results. They showed how they used existing Cadence flows or how they established their very own methodologies within the Cadence Software, to achieve their research results.

A further enrichment has been the invited talks. Per Larsson-Edefors (University of Gothenburg, Sweden), Hubert Kaeslin (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich), Jesper Knudsen (Nangate, Denmark) and Steven Redant (IMEC, Belgium) presented their work and publications and how it supports university research. Hopefully their presentations will be available in this thread soon.

The general sessions started on Monday afternoon, almost all presentations I attended have been a highlight on its own. All the way from presentations on Cadence Updates, over planned features, to special industry projects accomplished with Cadence Tools have been awe-inspiring.

Tuesday started off with the announcement of the Cadence European Design Contest winners. In the undergraduate category, Lukasz Kotynia from University Lodz, Poland and the PhD team, Joachim Becker and Fabian Henrici, from Albert-Ludwigs-University, Freiburg, Germany were recognized for their excellence (for more detailed information see: http://www.cadence.com/company/newsroom/press_releases/pr.aspx?xml=042908_cdnlive_designcontest).

The Cadence Academic Network conference dinner, which took place separately from the general CDNlive conference dinner, gave a great opportunity to get in touch with other researchers and to socialize with potential research partners.

On Wednesday afternoon the Cadence Academic Network closed with a wrap up and feedback session. We were lucky to hear three further industry partners that are getting involved in academic relationships. Istvan Cocron from Dialog Semiconductor presented the broad range of chips his company contributed to their own as well as products of their industry partners.

As with all networking events and conferences that are almost perfect, the only negative acknowledgment that came through is that the conference did not last long enough and all participants would have liked to spend a little bit more time on networking.

Well, the only thing left to say is a big thank you to Patrick Haspel, whose enthusiasm and dedication to the success of this Network made the events on the CDNlive to a great benefit for all Cadence Academic Network members.

Regards,

Pascal
